Type locality: Key Route Power-house, Oakland, California, U.S.A. (Gardner 1917: 377). Holotype: N.L. Gardner 3427; July 1916; floating in abundance among other Cyanophyceae in warm salt water. UC 205698 (Gardner 1917: 377).
