Distributional note
Invasive species in the Mediterranean (Klein & Verlaque 2011), where it was first found at Livorno, Italy prior to 1969. Verlaque et al. (2015: 119) suggest shipping or escape from an aquarium as the likely vectors. "This Indo-Pacific species was first recorded from the Mediterranean Sea at Leghorn (Italy) by Cinelli & Sartoni (1971); afterwards it spread throughout that basin with an invasive be- haviour in some areas (Piazzi et al., 1996; Piazzi & Cinelli, 2000)."
