General Environment
This is a freshwater species.
Description
Filaments short or long, irregularly clustered or solitary among other
cyanobacteria in mats, slightly coiled, cylindrical, slightly, but distinctly constricted
at cross-walls, (2.5-)3-4(-6) µm wide, not attenuated at the ends, immotile. Cells
shortly barrel-shaped, with homogeneous blue-green content, usually with visible
chromatoplasmic region. Sheaths facultatively developed, fine or firm, thin, colourless.
End cells do not differ from other vegetative cells, rounded at the end, rarely slightly
conical. Rarely plectonematoid branching in cultures. Necridic cells are present.
