This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Grateloupia crispata (Okamura) Y.-P.Lee.

Syntype localities: Prov. Ise, Sagami, Bosyu; (Okamura 1934: 32) Type: SAP; herb. Okamura (Yoshida 1998: 730) Notes: Type locality: Moroiso, Kanagawa Prefecture (Kawaguchi 1989: 240).
