Taxonomic note
"Although the type material of Peyssonnelia codana belongs to P. dubyi, Mediterranean plants differ from the latter (VERLAQUE, 1978). The single Greek record from Sithonia (North Aegean Sea) by ATHANASIADIS (1987: 50-51, as Peyssonnelia sp.) is in good agreement with Verlaque's concept, showing spermatangial structures distinct from those of P. dubyi (ATHANASIADIS, 2016: 675)." (Tsiamis & Panayotidis 2019: 7). See also an extensive discussion in Cormaci, Furnari & Alongi (2021: 144).It is still not clear if this species should be recognised. DNA sequencing may be the only way forward. - (11 May 2006) - M.D. Guiry
