Description
Motile cells of H. pseudotriquetra are spherical or ovoid. The epitheca and the hypotheca are hemispherical and of equal size or the epitheca may be slightly larger than the hypotheca. Cells measure 18.4-27.2 µm (x = 22.2 µm, n = 30) in length, and 14.4-21.6 µm (x = 17.2 µm, n = 30) in width (NIES473 strain). the cingulum is median or submedian and displaced about 0.5-1 times its own width. The sulcus is relatively wide, particularly towards the antapex. The nucleus is spherical and located in the central part of the epitheca. The chloroplast is located along the periphery of the cell. A spherical pyrenoid, surrounded by starch sheaths, is situated in the upper part of the hypotheca just below the nucleus. The pyrenoid matrix is penetrated by tubular invaginations.
