The type species (holotype) of the genus Enteromorpha is Enteromorpha intestinalis (Linnaeus) Nees.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Ulva prolifera f. subsimplex (Schiffner) Taşkin.
Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), producing offsets, bearing progeny as offshoots (Stearn 1973).
