The type species (holotype) of the genus Corynospora is Corynospora pedicellata (Smith) J.Agardh.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Mazoyerella australis (Harvey) Huisman & Womersley.

Lectotype locality: Rottnest Island, Western Australia; (Silva & al. 1996: 418) Lectotype: Harvey; Herb. Harvey, TCD; Trav. Set 344 Notes: This type locality was first recorded by Baldock (1976: 561).
Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), south, southern (Stearn 1973).
