Notes: Holotype: Exsiccatum CY21175, a unicyanobacterial population deposited in the Herbarium of the University of Malta. Iconotypes: figs 13-17. Type strain (reference strain): Oculatella subterranea VRUC 135/Albertano 1985, isolated from the Domus Aurea in Rome and deposited in the Vergata Rome Univ. culture Collection (VRUC) of the Univ. of Rome 'Tor Vergata', Rome, and in the Malta Catacombs Culture Collection (MCCC) at the Univ. of Malta (Zammit et al. 2012: 352).
