Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Amphiroa is Amphiroa tribulus (J.Ellis & Solander) J.V.Lamouroux.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Corallina officinalis Linnaeus.

Type Information
Type locality: Unalaska Island, Aleutian Archipelago, Alaska; (Woelkerling & al. 2008: 267) Lectotype: [G.] Kastalsky; 1827; LE; (Woelkerling & al. 2008: 267) Notes: Lectotype is designated and illustrated by Woelkerling et al. (2008: fig. 1). The lectotype was collected during the Russian expedition of 1826-1829 on the corvette Seniavin under the command of the Russian naval officer Fjodor Petrowitsch Lütke. Isolectotype in S (Swedish Museum of Natural History) with herbarium accession number A2609, designated by Hind et al. (2014). A partial rbcL sequence 296 base pairs in length was obtained from the isolectotype specimen.
