The type species (lectotype) of the genus Goniolithon is Goniolithon papillosum (Zanardini ex Hauck) Foslie.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Harveylithon munitum (Foslie & M.Howe) A.Rösler, Perfectti, V.Peña & J.C.Braga.
