The type species (holotype) of the genus Batrachospermum is Conferva gelatinosa Linnaeus.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Paludicola periploca (Skuja) Necchi & M.L.Vis.

Type locality: Brazil: Amazonas: Rio Negro; (Index Nominum Algarum) Lectotype (designated by Necchi 1990: 139): (Vis & al. 2020: 857) Notes: Necchi (1990: 39) "diagnosis (p. 62) and figures 1-15 in Skuja (1989) (Lectotype, here designated)." Collector: F. Gessner in 1960 (INA).
