This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Prymnesium minus (Parke & Manton) Edvardsen, Eikrem & Probert.

Type locality: sea at Lat. N. 49º19', Long. W. 7º26'; (Index Nominum Algarum) Type: at 5 m depth; (Index Nominum Algarum) Notes: Type culture (Plymouth No. 52) in Type Cult. Coll., Cambridge and Mar. Biol. Ass., Plymouth (INA).
Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), smaller, inferior, lesser (Stearn 1973).
