Notes:
A description of a new genus of the brown algae Undariella of the family Alariaceae with the only species found in the intertidal zone of the Kurile Islands is given. A simple lamina with roundish vanes (small blades) at the margins is characteristic of the new genus. In contrast to other Laminariales the development of the vanes starts with two microscopic wings curved in the form of compact sinusoids and located at the lower side of the flat margins of the lamina base turning into the stalk. Parts of the sinusoids that are perpendicular to the axis of the lamina grow into the blades (vanes). As a result young blades are perpendicular to the surface of the lamina. Later on with the growth of the blades in width and length they turn round into one plane with the lamina.
