Mike Guiry
Michael Guiry is the Founder and Director of the AlgaeBase project. He is a graduate of University College Cork and the University of London, and has carried out research at the University of Portsmouth in England, the University of Melbourne in Australia, and St Francis Xavier University in Canada. He has published over 200 papers on various aspects of seaweeds, freshwater and terrestrial algae. His professional interests are in algal databasing, taxonomy and systematics, and in the sustainable use of seaweed resources worldwide. He was the recipient of the 2010 Award of Excellence of the Phycological Society of America for his contributions to algal research and communication.

Wendy Guiry
Wendy Guiry is the principal collaborator on the AlgaeBase project. A graduate of University College, Cork, she has taught in London, and has been a Research Assistant at NUI, Galway since 1979.

Salvador Valenzuela Miranda
Salvador is an ardent worker on Algaebase. He has been entering all the literature from the Iberian Peninsula and the Islas Canarias, and now has responsibility for the diatom lists for Europe.
David John
David John is a Scientific Associate at the Natural History Museum in London where he held various positions including Head of Freshwater Algae Section, Head of the Algae Division and Chair of the Environmental Quality Research Theme before his retirement. Known internationally for his contributions both to marine and freshwater algal systematics, he has published over 200 papers on algae, including co-editing and contributing to The freshwater algal flora of the British Isles, a second edition of which is currently in press.
Sandy Lawson
Sandy is retired. She was an Administrative Assistant at the National University of Ireland Galway for many years. She has been involved with the AlgaeBase project since its inception and has dealt with the financial accounting on all projects associated with it.
