Identification of marine, freshwater and terrestrial algae requires considerable expertise and close examination of fresh and fixed material; some entities require culturing and extraction of DNA for sequencing. We do not provide such a service, and we can no longer respond to such enquiries. Please do not send pictures or algae or ask for identification of pictures or samples of algae. AlgaeBase has been fortunate in being generously sponsored from 2012 by the Irish-Canadian company Ocean Harvest Technology Ltd, for which we are very grateful. We have also been in negotiations with the Flanders Marine Institute to host the database as part of a joint research venture between VLIZ and the Ryan Institute, National University of Ireland, Galway.
