Abstract:
Four genera in the Tetrasporales (Chlorophyta) are
documented from Australia: Tetrasporidium javanicum Möbius is newly recorded, Tetraspora
gelatinosa (Vaucher) Desvaux is confirmed for this country, and the distribution of Palmellopsis
gelatinosa Korshikov and Parallela novae-zealandiae E.A.Flint are extended. A further gel-forming
damp terrestrial taxon, Gloeocystis polydermatica (Kützing) Hindák (Radiococcaceae, Chlorococcales)
is newly reported from Australia, and the conspicuous, gel-coated, Coleochaete areolata
(Coleochaetaceae, Coleochaetales) is described as new to science. These six taxa are among the most
commonly encountered colonial green macroalgae in Australian inland areas.
