Abstract:
A new coccal green algal genus, Garhundacystis KOSTIKOV et HOFFMANN, with the only species G. spadensis KOSTIKOV et HOFFMANN sp. nova, belonging to the Radiococcaceae is described from a mineral water source. The genus is characterised by the absence of spherical vegetative cells, a single parietal chloroplast with pyrenoid, the multiplication by two autospores released after rupture of the sporangial cell wall. The type species presents weak mucilage production and a soft consistency of the colonial mucilage.
