Abstract:
Three little known branched filamentous green algae, Leptosira erumpens (Deason et Bold) c.n., Pleurastrum sarcinoideumGroover et Bold and Rhexinema paucicellulare (Vischer) Geitler, were isolated from various soils and their life cycles were studied at the light microscope level. Generic position of the mentioned species is discussed and revised. Because of unclear definitions and delimitations of the genera Leptosira, Pleurastrum and Rhexinema, which cause also the problems of their classification in high level categories, the attempt to explain generic diacritical characters and to find sharper and clearer boundary between them is made.
