Description: Thallus filamentous, with prostrate and erect axes, ecorticate. Determinate lateral branches (whorl branches) 2 per axial cell, generally opposite and distichous, occasionally decussate; whorl branches with basal cell smaller than distal cells, undivided or variously branched; vesicular cells on 2–4 (–6)-celled pinnules. Spermatangia in heads. Carposporophytes with an involucre of modified vegetative filaments. Tetrasporangia cruciately divided.
