Description: Thallus erect, filamentous, profusely branched, with numerous radially arranged lateral branches per axial cell. Primary axes wholly corticated by elongate cells arranged in transverse bands, generally with alternating bands of short and long cells. Determinate lateral branches simple, corticated only at the nodes by transverse bands of cells. Cells uninucleate. Spermatangia covering lower cells of fertile laterals. Procarps on short lateral branches, with 2 or 3 pericentral cells, one bearing the 4-celled carpogonial branch. Carposporophytes with 2 or 3 gonimolobes, with a filamentous involucre. Tetrasporangia sessile on lateral branch cortical bands, tetrahedral or subcruciate.
