Description: This genus is of questionable justification. Streblonemopsis shows similarity with Entonema Reinsch being branched uniseriate filaments. It is reported from galls of Cystoseira, but it is unknown whether the galls are caused by Streblonemopsis or they may be just a suitable site for epiphytic/endophytic algae. Some filaments penetrate the surface of the host and their apical parts are transformed into plurilocular sporangia. Each cell contains several disc-shaped chloroplasts. This genus may be a microthallus of a well-known macrothallus, but culture studies are urgently needed before safe conclusions can be made.
