Description: Upright cylindrical thalli, up to 50 cm tall; monopodial, many branches, spirally arranged on axis, clothed with primarily and secondarily developed, mostly unbranched monosiphonous laterals (trichoblasts) which are colored and persistent; some trichoblasts replaced by polysiphonous branches. 4 pericentral cells, each dividing transversely in an unequal manner and each cell producing a trichoblast; a thick cortication of rhizoidal filaments develops and outer cortal cells may also produce unbranched monosiphonous filaments. Reproductive structures mostly unknown; procarps on monosiphonous stalks on trichoblasts.

Comments: Subtidal, rare, Western Australia. Gonatogenia and Holotrichia have similar reproductive structures, and it seems that some descriptions in the literature have confused the two genera. Further research may show that these two genera should be combined into one.
