Holotype species: Yamadaia melobesioides Segawa
Currently accepted name for the type species: Corallina melobesioides (Segawa) Martone, S.C.Lindstrom, K.A.Miller & P.W.Gabrielson
Original publication and holotype designation: Segawa, S. (1955). Systematic anatomy of the articulated corallines (supplementary report). The structure and reproduction of Yamadaia melobesioides Segawa. Botanical Magazine, Tokyo 68: 241-247.
Taxonomic status: currently regarded as a synonym of Corallina.
Most recent taxonomic treatment adopted: Martone, P.T., Lindstrom, S.C., Miller, K.A. & Gabrielson, P.W. (2012). Chiharaea and Yamadaia (Corallinales, Rhodophyta) represent reduced and recently derived articulated coralline morphologies. Journal of Phycology 48(4): 859-868.
Comments: Yamadaia melobesioides, the generitype species, has been shown to belong in Corallina based on an rbcL gene sequence (Martone et al. 2012). Thus Yamadaia is a synonym of Corallina.
