Description: Very small parasite or hemiparisite on Lophocladia harveyi. Vegetative thallus hemispherical, pulvinate, on surface of host, with penetrating rhizoids that form connections with host cells. Fertile cushions have radiating clusters of upright cylindrical axes, polysiphonous and with a trichoblast or scar cell on each segment, arranged in a spiral series. Trichoblasts deciduous unless bearing reproductive structure. Female branchlets have many distal procarps borne on epibasal cell of trichoblast, remaining monosiphonous until cystocarp matures. Supporting cell bears a 4-celled carpogonial branch a 1 sterile group of 3-4 cells. Pericarp spheroid to ovoid, ostiolate, several produced on in series on fertile branchlet. Male capitula replace trichoblasts, lanceolate and sometimes branched; sterile apical cell usually present. Tetrasporangial branches unusual in that several are borne on a trichoblast, each having a monosiphonous base; 1 sporangium in each segment, their large size causing displacement within sporangial row.

Contributors
Some of the descriptions included in AlgaeBase were originally from the unpublished Encyclopedia of Algal Genera, organised in the 1990s by Dr Bruce Parker on behalf of the Phycological Society of America (PSA) and intended to be published in CD format. These AlgaeBase descriptions are now being continually updated, and each current contributor is identified above. The PSA and AlgaeBase warmly acknowledge the generosity of all past and present contributors and particularly the work of Dr Parker.

Descriptions of chrysophyte genera were subsequently published in J. Kristiansen & H.R. Preisig (eds.). 2001. Encyclopedia of Chrysophyte Genera. Bibliotheca Phycologica 110: 1-260.
