Holotype species: Ceramothamnion codii H.Richards

Original publication and holotype designation: Richards, H.M. (1901). Ceramothamnion codii, a new rhodophyceous alga. Bulletin of the Torrey Botanical Club 28: 257-265, Plates 21, 22.

Description: Plant small with creeping, prostrate axes and simple erect branches. Similar to Ceramium in all essential features and generally regarded as a synonym of this genus.
