Arthrogloea Pascher, 1949
Holotype species: Arthrogloea annelidiformis Pascher
Publication details: Pascher, 1949: 59
Original publication and holotype designation: Pascher, A. (1949). Chrysophyta, Pyrrophyta, Euglenophyta. In: Exploration du Parc National Albert. Mission H,. Damas (1935-1936). Fascicule 19. (Conrad, W. & Duvigneaud, P. Eds) Vol. 19, pp. 53-70. Bruxelles: Vromant.
Description: Cells arranged in filament-like rows surrounded by thick mucilage. Each cell with a large bandshaped parietal chloroplast with a stigma. Reproduction by fragmentation of filament. Protoplasts can directly develop into uniflagellate swarmers with one visible flagellum, which are liberated by rupture of the mucilaginous layer. Stages with tetrahedrally arranged cells may also belong in the life history. Thick-walled cells may be resting stages. Stomatocysts and sexual reproduction unknown. Only known from freshwater in Zaire, Africa. Resembles closely the genus Sphaeridiothrix Pascher and Vlk; main difference is that in the latter genus no swarmers have been observed.

Contributors
Some of the descriptions included in AlgaeBase were originally from the unpublished Encyclopedia of Algal Genera,
organised in the 1990s by Dr Bruce Parker on behalf of the Phycological Society of America (PSA)
and intended to be published in CD format.
These AlgaeBase descriptions are now being continually updated, and each current contributor is identified above.
The PSA and AlgaeBase warmly acknowledge the generosity of all past and present contributors and particularly the work of Dr Parker.
Descriptions of chrysophyte genera were subsequently published in J. Kristiansen & H.R. Preisig (eds.). 2001. Encyclopedia of Chrysophyte Genera. Bibliotheca Phycologica 110: 1-260.
