Taxonomic note
Fanés Trevino et al. (2009: 22) note that this genus was transferred to the class Xanthophyceae (Fott & Komárek, 1960), but later Hindák (1978) transferred it back to the Chlorophyceae based on the presence of chlorophyll b. They include it in the Botryococcaceae which they consider to belong to the Trebouxiophyceae rather than the Chlorophyceae. See also Ott & Oldham-Ott (2003). - (02 March 2011) - G.M. Guiry
