Clipeodinium Pascher, 1917

Holotype species: Clipeodinium medusa Pascher

Original publication and holotype designation: Pascher, J. (1917). Von der merkwürdigen Bewegungsweise einiger Flagellaten. Biologisches Zentralblatt 37: 421-442.

Description: Cell cone-shaped in lateral view, kidney-shaped in apical view. Middle of cone has a cingulum in which a transverse flagellum is beating. A longitudinal flagellum apparently is missing. The broad hypocone is indentated in the ventral region, and the hypocone can make movements like a medusa. Nucleus is in the epicone, chloroplasts are absent. Similar to Leptodiscus Hertwig may be a later synonym. Only reported from sea water aquaria.
