Chrysothylakion Pascher, 1916

Holotype species: Chrysothylakion vorax Pascher

Original publication and holotype designation: Pascher, A. (1916). Studien über die rhizopodiale Entwicklung der Flagellaten. Archiv für Protistenkunde 36: 82-136.

Description: Cell surrounded by an ellipsoid flattened lorica, with thick brown walls impregnated by calcium carbonate and iron compounds. Through a terminal oblique neck extends a vast net of branched and anastomosing rhizopodia. Cell has two parietal, somewhat reduced, chloroplasts without stigma or pyrenoids. Reproduction not known in detail, but young naked amoeboid daughter cells observed; also, a tentative report of stomatocysts. Holozoic nutrition by capture of bacteria and small algae by means of the rhizopodia. Found only in an old culture of marine chlorophytes, epiphytic on filaments of Chaetomorpha.
