Description: Unicellular - colonial; colonies free-living, microscopic, table-like or flat and waved, with irregular outlines, cells arranged irregularly (not in perpendicular rows in one plane (layer)), with usually higher cell numbers; common mucilaginous envelope is colorless, fine, diffluent at the margin; cells without individual mucilaginous envelopes. Cells spherical, after division shortly hemispherical, with homogeneous, pale blue-green content, without aerotopes. Cell division by binary fission in 2 perpendicular planes, perpendicular to the plane of the colony. Colony dissociation. Both species are known from the metaphyton of swamps, one from freshwater (near St. Petersburg, Russia), the second from saline localities (Turkestan).

Contributors
Some of the descriptions included in AlgaeBase were originally from the unpublished Encyclopedia of Algal Genera, organised in the 1990s by Dr Bruce Parker on behalf of the Phycological Society of America (PSA) and intended to be published in CD format. These AlgaeBase descriptions are now being continually updated, and each current contributor is identified above. The PSA and AlgaeBase warmly acknowledge the generosity of all past and present contributors and particularly the work of Dr Parker.

Descriptions of chrysophyte genera were subsequently published in J. Kristiansen & H.R. Preisig (eds.). 2001. Encyclopedia of Chrysophyte Genera. Bibliotheca Phycologica 110: 1-260.
