Holotype species: Helikotropis okteres Pochmann

Description: Colorless, osmotrophic cell, 50 _ 20 _m, with a reddish structure in the anterior considered by Pochmann to be a reduced ingestion organelle; cell broadly spindle-shaped, unflattened, with 8 ridges, slight euglenoid movement; flagella not seen. Included by Huber-Pestalozzi (1955), Starmach (1983) and Bourrelly (1970), but has no obvious characters to separate it from Gyropaigne. Freshwater; recorded once, from Czechoslovakia.
