Holotype species: Marsupiogaster striata Schewiakoff

Description: Rigid, ovoid, slightly flattened, colorless flagellates, 25 _m long, with 2 unequal flagella, one directed anteriorly, the other recurrent; said to be characterized by a very large canal opening. Included in Huber-Pestalozzi (1955), Bourrelly (1970) and Starmach (1983) but difficult to separate from Sphenomonas. Larsen and Patterson (1991) suggest it is synonymous with Entosiphonomonas. Freshwater; type from crater-lake on Oahu (Hawaii); other species from Poland.
