Description: Cells solitary, growing epipsammically. Frustules in broad girdle view rectangular with rounded corners; girdle broader on convex side of valve face than on the concave side. Valves bipolar with bluntly rounded apices, reniform in outline with a broad mantle and weakly convex valve face. No discernible axial area; areolae scattered over valve face, becoming organized into transapical striae on mantle; areolae poroidal with hymenate occlusions. Valve without apical or marginal pore fields, pseudosepta, costae or elevations. Rimoportulae at one or both poles. Cingulum composed of valvocopula, copula and one or 2 pleurae; valvocopula and copulae with a single row of areolae, pleurae with a double row of areolae; distinct ligulae, antiligulae and septa absent. Found growing attached to marine sand grains on Scripps Beach, California, USA.
