Parmidium H.R.Christen, 1962

Holotype species: Parmidium circulare Christen

Original publication and holotype designation: Christen, H.R. (1962). Zur Taxonomie der farblosen Eugleninen. Nova Hedwigia 4(3-4): 437-464.

Description: Colorless, osmotrophic, rigid, ovoid (20-25 _ 18-20 _m), greatly compressed cells, with a shallow indentation on one flat side such that the cell is angularly concavo-convex in cross-section; pellicle with widely placed striations but no keels; one emergent flagellum, highly mobile throughout its length during swimming, held straight when the cell is stationary. Christen (1962b) moved Petalomonas scutulum Skuja (1956) into the genus Parmidium to join the type on account of its cell shape and flagellar activity. Contributors
Some of the descriptions included in AlgaeBase were originally from the unpublished Encyclopedia of Algal Genera, organised in the 1990s by Dr Bruce Parker on behalf of the Phycological Society of America (PSA) and intended to be published in CD format. These AlgaeBase descriptions are now being continually updated, and each current contributor is identified above. The PSA and AlgaeBase warmly acknowledge the generosity of all past and present contributors and particularly the work of Dr Parker.

Descriptions of chrysophyte genera were subsequently published in J. Kristiansen & H.R. Preisig (eds.). 2001. Encyclopedia of Chrysophyte Genera. Bibliotheca Phycologica 110: 1-260.
