Description: Unicellular, solitary organisms. Cells 12-40 _m long and 16-28 _m diameter, naked, non-amoeboid, forming a slightly flattened disc and with graceful movement by means of two unequal, apically inserted flagella. Cells with three (rarely two or four) parietal chloroplasts per cell and contractile vacuoles. Stigmata and pyrenoids absent. Asexual reproduction my longitudinal division of motile stage. Chlorokardion reported from periphyton associated with Potamogeton natans L. or from Vaucheria mats; both species known from brackish water from Europe.
