Description: Colonial organisms with mucous thalli to 60-80 µm diameter, without definite form. Cells spherical or ellipsoidal with smooth cell walls and without order in homogenous matrix. Cells 6-8.5 µm (rarely 10 µm) diameter. Cells with two or three axial chloroplasts without pyrenoids and with oil droplets as reserve products. Asexual reproduction by autospores with two spores formed per mother cell; the parental cell wall remains in the colonial mucilage.
