Taxonomic status: currently recognized as a distinct genus.
Description: Plants consist of clusters of short, branched, uniseriate filaments. Cells each with single nucleus, parietal chloroplast and no pyrenoids. Filaments penetrate agar when grown in culture, rounding off at surface to produce akinetes and liberated by gelatinization of cell wall. Aplanospores globose, 2 or 4 produced per cell. Other reproductive stages unknown. Cedercreutziella known only from Finland on damp walls. Plants consist of clusters of short, branched, uniseriate filaments.
