Description: Medium-sized (60 µm) unicellular flagellates, dorsoventrally compressed. Epicone very small, separated by a slightly descending sulcus from the large hypocone which is deeply and broadly bifurcated by a wide arc which reaches the posterior end of the sulcus. Depth of the bifurcation is but little less than the dorso-ventral diameter of the body in the cingular region. Cingulum wide, with flaring sub-horizontal lists; sulcus displaced to the left side ending at the starting point of the left antapical horn. Plate pattern and cell contents not described. Sexual reproduction and cyst formation not known. Marine oceanic plankton, so far found only by its authors in the Pacific Ocean; apparently a deep water species.

Contributors
Some of the descriptions included in AlgaeBase were originally from the unpublished Encyclopedia of Algal Genera, organised in the 1990s by Dr Bruce Parker on behalf of the Phycological Society of America (PSA) and intended to be published in CD format. These AlgaeBase descriptions are now being continually updated, and each current contributor is identified above. The PSA and AlgaeBase warmly acknowledge the generosity of all past and present contributors and particularly the work of Dr Parker.

Descriptions of chrysophyte genera were subsequently published in J. Kristiansen & H.R. Preisig (eds.). 2001. Encyclopedia of Chrysophyte Genera. Bibliotheca Phycologica 110: 1-260.
