Description: Unicellular free-living biflagellated heterodynamic medium-sized (55-75µm long) cells with a cell wall of cellulosic plates. Plate formula : Po, 4', 0a, 6", 6(?)c, ?s, 6"', 3"'. The shape is sub-biconical in ventral view but circular in apical view. The broad cingulum is submedian, slightly descending with well-developed epithecal girdle list but weakly developed hypothecal girdle list. Girdle short, restricted to the hypotheca. Cell wall covered by large elongated pores. Vegetative reproduction apparently by binary fission, the theca of the mother cell is split along a characteristic fission line and apparently shared by the two daughter cells. In one cell one chloroplast reported but this may equally be remains of prey. Habitat: Marine plankton of the tropical Pacific, very rarely recorded.

Contributors
Some of the descriptions included in AlgaeBase were originally from the unpublished Encyclopedia of Algal Genera, organised in the 1990s by Dr Bruce Parker on behalf of the Phycological Society of America (PSA) and intended to be published in CD format. These AlgaeBase descriptions are now being continually updated, and each current contributor is identified above. The PSA and AlgaeBase warmly acknowledge the generosity of all past and present contributors and particularly the work of Dr Parker.

Descriptions of chrysophyte genera were subsequently published in J. Kristiansen & H.R. Preisig (eds.). 2001. Encyclopedia of Chrysophyte Genera. Bibliotheca Phycologica 110: 1-260.
