Description: Thallose; thallus joined to the substrate, more or less hemispherical, macroscopic (to 2 mm diam.), gelatinous, firm, composed of more or less straight, polarized, branched, more or less erect filaments. Filaments situated more or less parallel and near to one another, radially oriented, with true branching (V-type). Sheaths colorless in young filaments, later yellow to brown, thick, lamellated. Trichomes uniseriate, composed of barrel-shaped, mainly isodiametric cells. Heterocytes very rare, intercalary. Reproduction by nanocytes and monocytes (probably nonmotile), which arise at the ends of branches; monocytes differentiate usually in rows. Hormogonia and akinetes not known. Sessile, epilithic and on shells of molluscs in streams in the tropics (equatorial Africa).
