Description: Thallus crustose, expanded, attached to the substratum with many rhizoids and later tending to be free, pseudoparenchymatous, tightly adjoined, composed of obvious cortical and medullary layers with hair pits; medullary vegetative unilateral to bilateral; unilocular zoidangia with pedicels and paraphyses; intercalary plurilocular zoidangia with a single sterile terminal cell. L gene sequences distinct.
