Eubrownia Shin Watanabe & L.A.Lewis, 2017

Holotype species: Eubrownia aggregata (R.M.Brown & Bold) Shin Watanabe & L.A.Lewis

Original publication and holotype designation: Watanabe, S. & Lewis, L.A. (2017). Phylogenetic interpretation of light and electron microscopic features of selected members of the phylogroup Moewusinia (Chlorophyceae), with new generic taxonomy. Phycologia 56(3): 329-353, 77 fig., 2 tables.

Description: Vegetative cells nonmotile, solitary, ellipsoidal, broad ellipsoidal or spherical or grouped in regularly or irregularly isobilateral tetrads. Chloroplast parietal, bowl-shaped, hollow spherical with pyrenoids. Pyrenoid discontinuously covered by starch segments and penetrated by contorted, branched or merged thylakoid bundles. Cells uninucleate. Asexual reproduction by formation of autospores and zoospores. Autospores grouped in dyads, triads, tetrads or larger numbers of isobilateral tetrad, usually growing persistently. Zoospores biflagellate, narrowly ellipsoidal and covered with rigid cell wall. Papilla wide, flat or gently convex. Two flagella of equal length and inserted in wide V shape. Basal bodies shifted in clockwise orientation and connected by a sawhorse-shaped dcf associated with beam-like extensions, pcf and an mpcf. Four microtubular roots cruciately arranged and usually comprised of two microtubules in the root of dexter side to basal body and four in the root of sinister side. Chloroplast parietal, lateral with a pyrenoid. Nucleus usually posterior. Sexual reproduction by union of isogametes. The genus was supported by molecular phylogenetic analysis using SSU rDNA sequence comparisons.

Contributors
Some of the descriptions included in AlgaeBase were originally from the unpublished Encyclopedia of Algal Genera, organised in the 1990s by Dr Bruce Parker on behalf of the Phycological Society of America (PSA) and intended to be published in CD format. These AlgaeBase descriptions are now being continually updated, and each current contributor is identified above. The PSA and AlgaeBase warmly acknowledge the generosity of all past and present contributors and particularly the work of Dr Parker.

Descriptions of chrysophyte genera were subsequently published in J. Kristiansen & H.R. Preisig (eds.). 2001. Encyclopedia of Chrysophyte Genera. Bibliotheca Phycologica 110: 1-260.
