Description: Solitary dinoflagellates with chloroplasts of diatom origin. Cells covered by amphiesmal plates which are sometimes visible in the light microscope. Plate formula po, x, 4?, 0a, 6'', 5c, 5s, 5''', 0p, 2'''' or po, x, 3?, 1a, 6?, 5c, 5s, 5'', 0p, 2''''. Eyespot, if present, of type A.
