Description: Single cells of the coccoid phase spherical to broadly ellipsoidal. Mean coccoid cell length ranges from 8.0 to 9.0 ?m. Nucleus contains ~ 26 condensed chromosomes. Symbionts of foraminifera, also freeliving and non-symbiotic species. Dinoflagellates whose partial sequences of LSU rDNA (containing the variable domains D1/D2) vary in nucleotide differences by no more than 5% from that of type species F. kawagutii [AF427462] are defined as members of this genus.
