Description: Cells solitary, spherical, with smooth cell walls. Immature cells uninucleate, mature cells multinucleate, with one parietal, cup-shaped chloroplast in immature cells becoming reticulate to spongiform with age. One pyrenoid in young cells to several pyrenoids in mature cells. Pyrenoid matrix homogenous. Size of mature cells less than 80 µm. Reproduction by zoospores of "Protosiphon" type (without cell walls), aplanospores, or autospores.
