Original publication and holotype designation: Athanasiadis, A. (2021). Canal differentiation in multiporate conceptacles of Mesophyllaceae (Corallinales, Rhodophyta), with recognition of Thallis gen. nov. from South Africa, Perithallis gen. nov., Printziana gen. nov. and Sunesonia gen. nov. from southern Australia-New Zealand-Chatham. Description: New monotypic genus of Mesophyllaceae, allied to Sunesonia (described herein) from which differs by the development of trichocytes and a predominantly coaxial hypothallium, and the lack of reduced basal cells of pore filaments lining canals of multiporate conceptacles. Printziana and Sunesonia differ from other genera of Mesophyllaceae in developing elongate basal and subbasal cells in pore filaments lining the canals of multiporate conceptacles.
