Description: New genus of Mesophyllaceae, sharing most of its vegetative features with Magnephycus and Macedonis, except the development of larger-longer basal and subbasal pore cells in straight canals of multiporate conceptacles. The latter character similarly occurs in the multiporate conceptacles of the erect taeniform thallus of Mastophoropsis, from which Ectocarpa differs in forming a foliose thallus with unattached superimposed growth
