Description: Cells are solitary or colonial, planktonic. Mucilage is present or absent. Colonies are 4–32 celled, cells are connected with mucilaginous stalks. Adult cells are predominantly oval, broadly oval or spherical. Chloroplast is single, parietal, with a spherical pyrenoid, covered by starch grains. Asexual reproduction by equal autospores. Zoospores and sexual reproduction not observed. Autospores released through disruption of the mother cell wall.
