Phylogenetic analyses support recognition of ten new genera, ten new species and 16 new combinations in the family Kallymeniaceae (Gigartinales, Rhodophyta). Description: Member of the Kallymeniaceae with foliose blades; medulla filamentous, with an interconnected network of stellate cells, these variously slender or slightly swollen, or transformed into and bearing secondarily derived filaments of slightly to highly swollen cells full of starch-like inclusions; inner cortex typically one or two layers of periclinally compressed cells bearing 1-2 layers of smaller isodiametric outer cortical cells. Female and postfertilization structures unknown.
